These blocks were cut from some quartersawn boards of American Sycamore. It is kiln dried wood that is ready to use or have stabilized. Sycamore is a soft wood that accepts dyes and stabilization very well. The snakeskin flecks will accept the dye differently than the background so the dyed wood still will have contrasting colors. My opinion is that sycamore should be stabilized but not everyone agrees with me.

Quartersawn Sycamore can look a lot different from one side of the block to the other. For that reason most pieces will work out best if used for scales on a full tang knife.
This photo shows a block split in half. Note the difference in the look of the 2 different sides.

The next photo shows the faces of the scales cut by splitting this block in half. Now you have 2 mirror image pieces with figure that is somewhere in between the look of the two different sides.

==============================================

This is natural wood, it has not been stabilized.

I am sending a batch of wood to K&G for stabilizing on Friday.
If you would like any blocks from this thread stabilized I can send them in with my batch of wood. Turn around time is usually about 4 weeks. Add another week or two for woods being dyed. I will be having some woods stabilized and others dyed and then stabilized.

If you would like a block stabilized and left natural color it would cost an additional $6 a block.

If you would like a block dyed either orange or black and stabilized it will cost an additional $8 a block.

US Shipping is Free. International Shipping is $5 per item.

When you decide which items in this thread you want, just post "I'll take #s...." and I will mark them sold for you. Please note if you want your block cut into scales (free) and if you want your blocks to be stabilized in your post. Be sure to indicate if you want your blocks dyed and if so, black or orange.

My address to make payment through paypal is itsaburl@hotmail.com. Please note your user name & item #s when making payment.
