queation about knives

i'm leaning towards buying a knife between 6 to 7.5 inches. i feel that thats a really good size, not too big, not too small. i think a 4.5 inch blade wouldnt be big enough for chopping/splitting wood or survival situations. what do you guys think?

If you are looking at the Swamp Rat, you might want to check out ScrapYardKnives

They have a 6" bladed knife available, I have both the coated and LE versions, very nice and less expensive than Swamp Rat. (they do have choils)

yeah, i was looking at the srap yard's too. i'm not sure. i can't bring myself to decide if 4.5 inches ain't enough, or if over 6 is over kill. what's your opinion?

I think a 4.5" knife is a great size for a general utility knife & skinner

6" is a size for a jack of all trades kind of knife. It would be better than a 4.5" knife for the uses you describe.

I prefer a 9"+ blade for my own use.

Well, you could talk to Justin of Ranger Knives, and have him make you a 5 inch RD!!

Yopu can't really chop worth a darn with a 6" blade. I'd say get a kukri, and use the included karda for delicate work.

ok, not so much chopping, more like splitting wood for fire making and other various activities. i want an EDC knife that i can also rely on in a survival situation
