Queen #19 Honey Amber

I just got an amber bone copperhead and I love it!

Didn't come as sharp as I would like but it came to with a few licks on a fine stone.

This poor knife. My customer is just too hard on pocket knives.
Spread this one apart (loosened the bolster, pin stuck out), he mashed it back together.
Today he calls me and says the backspring broke. Broke! Wow.

Funny thing is, I sent his Razor Edge Case trapper in for repair and it came back today.
An entirely new knife except for the blades which came out of some other model. (SSP)
It looks great. Maybe he won't kill it. :(

Maybe he needs a fixed blade. :)

Maybe he needs a fixed blade. :)

Maybe he needs to get a job in the Quality Control Dept.

Keep all of us from having to deal with such issues on future knives. :p

I was in the authorized Case knife repairman's shop and watched him tighten up a loose blade in a stockman model case. He tapped a thin blade between bolster and blade until it reached or was stopped by the pivot pin. He said the blade between the bolster and the blade in th knife helped give support to strike at. He then hit the bolster with a rubber mallet or some kind of soft head hammer. They were firm taps and then he buffed the scratches out with his polishing wheel on his buffer. That was back around 1980. Seemed like he said he had travelled to Case HDQ when he had retired from the post office to be trained as an authorized Case repairman. This man had the most amazing collection of old knives. I was WOWED by all his knives.

Man, that's a couple of real pretty knives. Queen puts them together nicely, too. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, D2 and a mirror polish are not normally a good combination. There are a few custom makers that can do it, but I can't see how it could possibly be worth the hassle. It just needs a moderate grit hand rubbed finish or a working "belt" finish to look good IMO.

@2brothers: what the *hell* is he doing to these knives? Think you can spend a little time with him when he's actually using one? I'm just curious what he could possibly be doing. I'd almost recommend a Fallkniven U2 instead, which has pivot you can adjust, great steel, a relatively thick laminated steel blade, and a good price (not very pretty though) -- however, it doesn't have liners - with whatever he seems to be doing, that might be bad in the long run.

I hate to keep bringing this thread back up, but I need some info before I contact Queen.

I went by and picked this trapper up today and sure enough, the clip blade spring is broken clean in half.
The knife itself is not damaged in any way, no marks, no dents, nothing.
He said he opened the blade, heard a "pink" and the blade went loose. Crazy I tell ya.

My question.
If I send this back to Queen for repair, will they just replace the spring and send it back OR
will they send a new one?

If I can request they replace the spring, I want to do that.
My guy said he spent too long on sharpening that D2 and doesn't want to do it all over again. :D
Anyone know what they'll do? I've never dealt with Queen CS before.

I had a Queen (Schatt) doctors knife where the spring broke...this was ten years ago...I sent it back and they rwplced the spring.

I recently sent a honey amber congress in for repair and they repaired it they did not replace it.

Thanks for that info Steve. That's what I needed to know.
I'm going to include repair in my note before replacing.

Here it is. Sending it off on Monday for some TLC from Queen.
Judging from their rep, I shouldn't have any trouble.

If you're squeamish, don't look!

It would be nice if it came like this, blade on each side and all. ;)
