I'm also a fountain pen buff, and while I don't own any old pens made from casein, I've read that it's a bad idea to let them soak in water. Does anyone know if the same would apply to a knife with casein covers?

"I've got more info on Queen Classics and the Casein Cattle Knife you purchased.
Ken and Ryan Daniels actually ran the Classic program 2003 to 2006. Your Cattle Knife was issued early, around 2003. The Cattle Knife run included 50 Stag, 50 Red Stag, 25 Casein, and 25 Winterbottom Bone Handles....so your knife is pretty rare. From 2006 no Queen Classics (to my knowledge) were issued until after Ken bought Queen and I took over the Queen Classic program."
