Queen and repairs?

Hey guys, quick question regarding my BF 2010 knife...as some know I was given a BF knife from last year, it was unused and still in the box and just noticed the spear blade has very noticeable blade play when open. What to do? will Queen fix this under their warranty? if so do any of you have their customer service number? I've only been using it since my wife brought it to the airport for me on November 18th and to say the least I'm kinda bummed with Queen right now. :(

Thanks...whats everyones experience with Queen repairs? should I expect to be hounding them every couple weeks to get it back? I really love using this knife so my pocket will feel bare till I get it back (and with christmas it makes me concerned I wont see it back till January).

I dont have any tools at this point in time and frankly Queen need to get their act together so I want to at least call them and see what they can do...if I was tooled out here atm I would give it a shot, likewise with an old schrade that has a similar problem I was given recently.

Ok I called and the lady on the other end had no idea, I told her what knife it was and she asked "is that a queen cutlery knife?"...she eventually told me to send it in with my name, number, address and what is wrong with the knife to their PA address. I am going to do this and hope I see the knife again, or is there a number to someone higher up I should speak to first because their customer service have no clue (she didnt even know the difference between a clip and spear blade).

Surely must be some people on here who have dealt with Queen repairs just so I can get an idea before shipping it out.

i not for sure, but is Bill Howard the boss at Queen?
years ago i talked with him on the phone about a problem with a Schatt & Morgan three blade canoe whittler. he told me to send it in if i really wanted to
i decided to keep the knife and not go through the hassle.

from what little i've read Queen guarantees satisfaction

I'm going to send it in, because end of the day I've been using it under 2 weeks and just want the spear blade to not wiggle side to side (I had been using the clip blade mostly those 2 weeks so didnt notice the issue)...not a hard ask, I just hope it dont take long because I love using this knife and just from those 2 weeks I can see the back spring darkening up nicely.

the reason i did not send it in, one of the secondary blades had no snap.
Bill said he'd have to take the knife apart to repair it, i assumed it would require a new back spring

i really liked the corncob jigged bone and did not want to take a chance on it being wrecked
also he told me he was pretty busy and by the time he got to it and sent it back to me it might take awhile.

so i opted to hang on to it.

i think your correct in sending it in to have it looked at, although i've tightened up a few slip joints when the blades get loose and if the knife was mine i'd tweek it.

I've said this before. Queen is a mixed bag on repairs. I've sent three knives back to them. One of them twice. A Mountain Man lockback and a stockman went and came back quickly. My BF Barlow went back twice. I still wonder about the barlow coming back in decent shape if it wasn't for Gus. You will get it back and most likely in good shape.

Its a simple fix, It just needs to be crimped in a bit...I normally would do it myself, I have fixed several antique folders but I am now in an apartment with no tools at all (was going to cost too much to ship them from Aus to the US). I just sent it in with a note in it and fully insured, better not get a call wanting money to repair because I'm in no way at fault with this one (I could understand if I had been using it a few years).

I will update this as things progress to share my experience...my pocket feels a little bare today though, I had got used to it sitting in my jeans. :(

I would be very surprised if this happened.

I am pretty sure that Queen and Schatt & Morgan work under the same tree, so I will share my experience with S&M.

I sent in a S&M "File and Wire Large Barlow" a while back. Both blades had significant play.

Im not sure if they sent the same knife back or if they just sent a new one, but the one I received had lots of play in the secondary blade.

I still have the replacement knife, essentially unused. Im not sure if I will ever send it in again to have them "fix it."

At this point, I can either send it in again, taking a total loss of about $17 in shipping (including the last send-in) and I still wont be sure if they will actually fix the problem... -or just sell it at a large discount and cut my losses now.

I would give S&M a low grade for their customer service/ warranty department. It is one thing to have a great written warranty, and another to deliver on it. (the first time)

Well I know I'll be getting the same knife back (SFO forum knife and all) but if it does come back with issues still I'll look into contacting Queens director...I'm not hard to please, I'd just like my knife to not wiggle. :p

I had a Mountain Man lockback that had the wiggles and needed a sharpening bad. Sent it in to them, they sent it back with a good helping of cosmoline on it, and no change in the edge. I own a fair amount of Queen/Schatt and Morgan knives, and all are stellar examples of what the company is putting out now. I would still send any one in to Queen for repairs etc.

I dunno. I've never bought a Queen yet whose edge didn't rival that of a butter knife for sharpness.

It's definitely a Queen trademark...I spent a while getting my edges right, concerned they might cut them self handling a sharp knife for once. :D

With My 2010 knife, it's the Clip that has play, the Spear is rock solid.

I don't use the knife but keep it on the desk and open&close it a bit. I like the pattern and the Ebony but the blades&springs are too thick for my taste.

The Queen QCCC Teardrops I have in carbon came able to take the hair off the back of my hand. One D2 knife came reasonable, the others were horrors requiring toiling on diamonds.

Hope you get it fixed, let us know please.

Ok got my knife back, which I'm happy about and there is no longer any play...the gripe? for some unknown reason all the damn work I put into re-profiling it so it was actually sharp was ruined! they sent it back with the queen butter knife special grind!!! the tip of the clip point has slight grind burn and its all but useless until I get time to re-profile it which will be a while since I start my new job tomorrow.

Queen cutlery if you happen to read this, retrain or hire new staff and put a little pride into your work. Thank you for fixing the side play in a reasonable time frame, but it was not necessary to destroy all the work I put into a mirror polished edge on both blades. :)
