Queen Cocobolo line

Got the trapper today. I'm liking it. When I ordered it I didn't say small trapper, so Bill said he had 1 # 19 trapper left and I said ok. Its not the small one but I like it so I'll keep it. I figure it'll take a week to get used to it in my pocket. Its going to be my user for a while. Whats D2 look like with a patina? What I like better about the larger trappers is the little bump or point on the inside handle. The swedges are nice too.
Thanks for the links neeman. I think I may be looking for more Queens. The prices are very reasonable.

Dang, that is one I needed for my collection. I wish I knew Bill had had one left :)

Eric in his collection showed the range of colors in Cocobolo

But this one has beautiful wood!
That red with the dark grain!

Give him a call, you never know. It wasn't in his website.I'de trad with you eswartz, but I can't part with it.Sorry.
Thanks for the compliments, you too neeman. I'm considering looking for more of this line. Queen should go back to cocobola over the maple. Much better eye candy.

Having D2 with brushed finish is in my view preferable to the polished finish on the Amber Bone models. Polished D2 often looks orange-peel liker and it patinates with spotting rather than an overall hue like on carbon.Hence the desirability of matte brushed finish.

I have found the opposite!

The polished D2 patinas to a steady grey
and the brushed D2 almost never patinas

don't know why

Interesting, the polished ones I have are very 'spotty' even streaky in a rather unpleasant fashion. It may be that the polished surface is more porous than the matte one?

Whatever, those scales on navihawk's new Trapper are really impressive, fine rich wood with excellent colour. He got a goodie!

When the polished D2 starts a patina, I polish them off with brasso
This give a clean blade and then the patina develops an even grey

Hey eswartz,
Are all those Cocobola's safe queens or do you use them? Do you collect other knives?

Hey eswartz,

While I try not to have safe queens, I have many knives and cannot use them all so they will stay unused.

I do use the cocobolo whittler, but have another one unused in its box.

As stated above, I collect GECs. I also like Himilayan Imports knives, Bulldog, stag knives, whittler knives and such. Some Case and a variety of others.

Eric.

Thanks Eric. Your collection looks impressive. I was wondering because of the dark color of the wood on some of them. I gotta check out your GEC's.
Eric, PM sent to you.

I like that Congress 2 blade pattern, appeals a lot more than the usual 4 blader.

I'm liking that Muskrat.
I've been cutting boxes with the spey blade on my trapper. I also used it to cut my steak with last week. Rinsed the blade of with a touch of soap about 5 minutes later and no staining whatsoever.
I've always prefered Case knives overall, but I am becoming a big fan of Queen knives.
