Queen Cutlery Sold????

I hopes it's for the best. Queen has a heck of a history and reputation hard earned in the the US cutlery industry even if their QC can be a bit spotty at times they're more than capable of producing stellar knives at reasonable prices. After the whole Schrade buyout by Taylor brands I've always been a bit skeptical when a knife company seems to change hands.

If it means more consistency for high product quality and keeping the ownership with local folks who love the knife business then I'd be happy to see it.

Even with the recent large price hike of Queen knives, with their excellent D2 steel and high quality handle materials they're still a bargain in American cutlery.

A big enjoyment for me is to put a good edge on a knife, but I would still pay a little more for better QC and a better edge bevel. And their pricing structure leaves room to do just that.

I'm a big fan of most Traditional Jacks. And among others, I have a decent collection of Case 65's.
Sorry folks,I meant to say a collection of Case 15 pattern,Small Gunstock's. I should check my reference material BEFORE I type!

Hope this happens. The potential to have traditional patterns produced in D2 or ATS-34 steels with Daniels Family quality controls and shipped with a knife edge sounds fantastic. Good luck Daniels Family!

That one got a grin. One can only hope and wait with bated breath.

Me too, lately their knives haven't been worth the box they send them in (actually I've found the box to be nicer than the knives). I'm excited to see where this takes the traditional knife community.

+1

As far as I'm concerned new blood can only make it better, or kill it.
Either would be an improvement.

I've been looking to try their D2 steel. Going to wait until the knives made by the new owners start coming off the line, though. Be nice to add this great old brand to my Case and GEC knife selections.

I wondering if they will use D2 and ATS 34 or do 1095 like Daniels have in the pass. I'm half tempted to email Courtney Daniels Ryans wife and ask a few things as I've spoke to her a few times. :D

I hope it will be a good thing for Queen and Schatt and Morgan. Along with GEC and Case they're my favorites. My S&M medium Gunstock jack has to be just about my all time favorite slipjoint, it's just perfect.

However as already mentioned, it won't be a good thing for my bank balance :D

Assuming there could be some question on the matter I think it would be nice for them stick with D2 so that steel could remain an option on a decent number of patterns for the consumers. Who else is using D2 besides Queen and Canal Street?

My sense is that it will be a good thing overall for the customer. I am less apt to buy a Queen knife after buying several with a poorly sharpened blade. For example, the 2012 Blade Forum knife is to be made by GEC, but I wouldn't be interested in it if it were made by Queen.

I ran into Ryan Daniels at the Blade Show but nothing was mentioned about a possible purchase of the company. He did talk me out of some money however. :)

I'd be willing to bet that it's already a done deal, I doubt they'd have mentioned it if they were still in negotiations. Pretty exciting stuff, how often do you see a U.S. cutlery company changing ownership AND staying in the U.S.?

I hope they stick with D2 also. I like Queen D2 a lot! I would like it even better if it came from the factory with a thinner blade grind.

Yeah Eric, how about it? Queen could do with some new artisans.
