Queen Cutlery

Temper,

Here are the pictures of the three John Howser slip-joints that I have.

Ack, now I have to give them another try :) Thanks for taking the time with the pics.

MarkPinTx, yes it was around that figure, but this is what they charge for them. The other end was spot on so why wasnt this one?

I think if consumers demanded more QC from these companies the natural selection process would get rid of the shoddy employees and either make the firm fold or make their employees have a bit more pride. I have gotten some really dodgy knives from Buck of their Strider collab. I'm convinced its just one guy making the mess. This may be the case (no pun intended) with Queen too.

Hey, I shop at J&P Earnest Cutlery, I live in Cullman County about 25 miles away from their. Great shop, loaded with everything from Case to Buck to Henckels, Bulldog, Queen, Camillus, you name it. I drove by there for years without even looking, one day a friend of mine told me I was missing out on the best knife shop in my area, so I went, and by golly he was right, and now I've bought several knives from them.

Temper, I just revisited this thread and realized my post looked kind of snarky. Not intended to be. I just tend to personally downplay the cosmetic, especially in a lower-end (cost) knife. Another thing that happens in slipjoints pretty frequently is that grinding or polishing compound or other junk is in the joints or between the springs and liners. Some oil, WD40, kerosene, gasoline (dangerous) or other solvent, together with working the blades and maybe some compressed air, will get most SJ's with "lazy" blades up to snuff real quick.

MarkPinTx,
No offense taken, some of us are just a bit pickier than others. I sell knives so I have to accomodate the highest common denominator, if its good enough for me then its going to be good enough for anyone. It was just that the Case Canoe I have is spot on, I was excited about the Queen as I wanted D2. My distributor told me to hang on to it and they would issue a credit as it wasnt worth sending back. I gave it to my wife and now she sits on the back step and carves with it :) (After I put a 17 deg angle on it, it was pretty useless from the factory, a 17 on the Edge Pro really makes the D2 shine  )

I'll be at Shot in Feb, hopefully I will be able to pick up a Cocobolo Canoe there :D

I will definitely keep looking at Queen and S&M as I love the patterns and steel. I will just have to pick over the ones I look at until finding one that meets my standards. :(

Those are very nice Howsers. Does he make a Sodbuster or Mountain Man pattern?

I recommend the J&P to anyone. I think they are a little higher than what you can find elsewhere, but you can go in and look at what you are buying, so I am willing to pay the difference.
