Catchy title eh?Sorry, i cant help myself but i do have a question for the substantial knowledge base here.I recently bought a mint Queen Country Cousin Soddie style folder. It is tang marked with a large Q and a 76 beside it.It has the familiar Country Cousin blade etch on front and Queen Steel#70 on back.My question is. Is the blade D-2 steel like the modern version?I always thought QueenSteel was code for their fine hc stainless.

Your knife was made in 1976. I'm pretty sure Queen started using D2 in 2002 so your knife is most likely stainless.

I believe that in the late '70s Queen Steel was 440C. They switched to 420HC in the early '90s.

You may well be right.I know old timers didnt much like it because it was so hard. But i quickly put a hair scalpin' edge on this thing with paper wheels and a strop. Its a great little slicer.
