Quench Plates????

I found these 18"x18" 1/2" thick Aluminum Heat sinks at work. If I face the bottom side flat to 3/8" thick, would they work?

I was also thinking of cutting them into two parts. I would then have 1 @ 18"x5" and 1 @ 18"x8" (leaving out the area without an fins).

Thoughts?

I would go with thicker plates. 1" thick solid plates work best.i use 1.5" thick plates..,the thicker the aluminum the better!!
