Some of you guys have been kind enough to show pics of your quench tanks and I don't remember seeing one with a lid on it. When you are not using your tank I'm guessing it is covered with some type of lid. My question is does the oil need to be sealed in the tank or will just putting a lid on it be sufficient?

Helps keep shop debris out:
Maybe one of the most important reasons for a tank lid is to extinquish flare-ups/fires - if they occur.

Thanks Karl! I have been using peanut or veg. oil so I know all about flare ups. When you aren't using the oil should the lid be air tight or just something to keep the shop debris out?

It's not going to evaporate!
However, with the non-mineral/petroleum based oils like veg oil and the like, little "critters" may have a tendancy to dive in for a snack!
I guess the tighter the better in your case.
