My girlfriend's dad has a heat-treating oven and pyrometer (he's a sculptor -mostly in stone- so I didn't think of him as a resource for HTing). I'm trying to make a decision on a HT oil for general use. I'm doing pieces in 1095, 1084 and W1 at the moment. I have read that Parks #50 is a good fast quenching oil. I have also read that Houghton's Houghto-Quench K is essentially equivalent. And, last but not least, Houghton's Bio-Quench has what D. Scott MacKenzie of swordforums calls, "nearly the perfect cooling curve." Darren Ellis carries Parks but it's back-ordered and I can't for the life of me find a retail-type outlet for either of the Houghton quenches. So, where do I find these oils and does anybody have any particular nuggets of wisdom to dispense regarding their relative performances? Pearls of wisdom would also be acceptable.
