Quesntion for first time owner

Hey eveyone,
I recently purchased my first Spyderco knife. Its a Military CF/S90v. This thing is awesome but I have one issue. It is darn hard to open! I have handful of other knives and none come close to being as difficult to open using the thumb hole. Is this normal? Can it be adjusted via the pivot screw? im no big burly man but im far from weak and I cant believe how much force is required to open it. Please tell me its adjustable...

My CPM-D2 Military is adjustable. I have loosened mine, lubed it, and then tightened it back down again.
You picked an excellent knife to make your first Spyderco.

Yes, it is adjustable via the pivot screw. When adjusting, also watch the lockup and for any blade play when locked. When properly adjusted and lubed, the action should be extremely smooth with almost no resistance.
 
I like mine a tad on the stiff side, and my S90V Millie is almost a two-hander. The detent is very stiff and very deep (watch how far the lock leaf moves as the blade closes). This is one liner lock I wouldn't worry about carrying tip-up.
 
Well that is good news! Can anyone tell me if its an allen wrench for the pivot screw? Doesnt quite seem to be a torx?

3/32" allen. I have both the bg-42 and s90v millies and they are great knives. I am sure yours will give you years of service. Use it in good health.:thumbup:
 
It's the detent as stated. Mine is getting easier as time goes on
 
Adjusting didnt do much for mine.
I took it apart, cleaned and lubed.
Not for everyone, but worked for me.

My S90V millie started out the same way, It has one of the strongest detents I have ever seen. It has broke-in nice, the detent is still tight but that just helps with the opening, a little thumb flick and it comes out like a switch blade.
