Quest for the best keychain bottle opener!

Hi All-

Peter, whatever you do don't design it like the infernal Benchmade Rescue Hook mentioned earlier. That tool will do a dandy job on a seatbelt, but one is just BEGGING to slice his or her thumb to the bone by using it as a bottle opener. Your thumb is positioned too closely to the blade for safe use. Just Say No!

Bought this little beauty years ago from Ibis (bicycle company)
It's called the Hand Job.
Don't think you can get them anymore.
Looks very cool, but not the greatest bottle opener.

But the name is totally cool.

I have been using Midget's method for decades.I drink only non-twist top bottled beer and I don't remember the last bottle opener I bought.

I always carry a small Sebenza and a Bic lighter, either will work.Grab the bottle neck in you fist, lay the lighter or (closed) knife across your index finger between your knuckle and first joint, flat side down, with the butt end under the bottle cap and pry up.
Don't pry against your thumb because it hurts.

Bic lighters will get too chewed up,rounded off,to work well after 100 beers or so,but they're cheap.
Sebenzas last forever.

g10 and ti are too soft. ti will roll just like aluminum and g10 will crack. how about hardened steel of some sort?

I found the company that produced the 3-in-1 beverage management device (but was too slow to report it first). They have a lot of designs, and they're VERY well made. Its made of die-cast recycled aluminum, and then covered in an epoxy. I've had one for over 5 years and other than the epoxy being a bit worn where you open the bottles it still works great and there is NO deformation at all. Anyhoo, the addy is: http://www.bevkey.com/index.html .

Cheers!

Sincerely,
Anthony

Edited to add: O'kay, so in my excitement I didn't actually read the previous threads to see that I'd already been beaten to the report. I will still add my positive note. Also, Aluminum is NOT- I repeat NOT- too soft to open bottles with and have it be effective. Maybe G-10 and Al in combo, but Al by itself is just as tough as anything else in that application. Thanks, again!

There is one on ebay right now for $39.99, type in Ibis bottle opener. I'm not the seller nor do I know them.

I've always been partial to the Ibis Handjob. Ibis used to be a great bike company and their bottle cap opener was this little metal hand that was, you know, kind of in the position, and the fingers grip under the bottle and you pry the cap off. I love mine!

I bought a little TI keychain opener on Ebay - I think it was about $17 with the Buy it now option.

It's basically an opener that looks exactly like the Victorinox SAK opener (chiseled tip for screwdriver, wire stripper notch) on the business end, and the back end is basically a "key" replica. I still have the seller's info if you want to try to contact them - but they are in Singapore - so I'll be glad to take the risk on this one and post a review when it comes out.

This doesn't mean, however, that I won't be ALL OVER one made by Peter! Peter, if you have thought about it some more, let us know!!

I'll be waitin' for peter's. It better be hardened at the cap prying part of the opener. I'm tired of gouges

The balisong is by far my favorite bottle opener. The exposed tang when closed works perfectly, and the handles give great leverage. Bic, regular folders? Beats 'em like rented mules, no deformed aluminum, or gouged plastic/scales.

New Graham also sells the Bottlefly, opener instead of a blade, and another bali/opener with glow inserts in the handle, so you can get all Tom Cruise on a long neck if the occasion demands. The Bottlefly is actually not a bad flipper for $20. I got one to use as a trainer for the kids, but it's a pretty solid opener as well, though I still use my regular bali for most bottle poppin' (Tom Cruise I ain't)

My prefered method is to use the edge of the counter, although my wife doesn't like me to do that. Which begs the question, why didn't she get me the beer in the first place?

I tried to teach my wife that one snap means 'beer', two snaps means, well, you figure it out. The lesson ended badly, the only thing learned was that my wife has bony knuckles..
