I just made a trade for a 1550 Kershaw PE Blackout, and I'm wanting to know if the single-sided thumb-stud can easily be switched over to the other side of the blade, so it can be used by a "lefty"...Me.

So far, 14 people have taken a look at my thread here, but NO answers. It looks like I've finally found a "stumper".:(.

I have a old one from like 5 years ago and I dont think I can switch the thumbstud or the pocket clip.

If I had one or knew the answer I would tell you.

Or do I know the answer and I'm being an asshat?

Or do I have one, and know the answer, and am still being an asshat?

Well, I don't know. Sorry. :)

From the (bad) photos I've been able to find, it looks like the other side of the blade/thumb-stud has a screw, so I ASSumed that the thumb-stud can be moved to the other side. It looks like I'm screwed.:(.

I think you might get lucky.

Definitely a countersunk Phillips screw, but it doesn't appear as if the stud side is countersunk as well.

As long as I can remove that thumb-stud that's on the wrong side, I can always replace it with something that'll work for me...Maybe I can find a set of dual screw-together thumb-studs that'll work. (It sure sucks being left-handed and loving Kershaw folders!.:D.).

Thanks for all the info, guys...You are the best!...

Bevel the hole on the opposite side and see if it will let the screw sit below the surface. The other side may fit fine.

glockman. southpaw to southpaw i had a blackout an i did switch the thumbstud with out any problems. It is a great knife. Its very lefty friendly.

Sorry I didn't see your thread my friend.

I believe going from memory that those are press fitted in there so tight that unless you have the equipment getting it back in once you got it out would be the real tough part. If its a screw type the worse case scenario is you might have to use a wood burner and heat up the screw head before turning the screw to back it out.

What I've done in the past on those press fit ones like the Blur and the Storm models have is take down the thumb stud on each side of the blade by flat grinding it down to a point just above the blade so my belt doesn't actually marr up the blade. Then I drill a hole clean through the stud and then mount a new thumb stud on there. Once you did that you could put it any which way you wanted.

The more I think about it, the more I'm thinkin' about going the screw-together dual thumb-studs route. Does anyone have an idea where I can get such an item? I'd be lookin' for a fairly large set so it'll cover the bevel that the screw sits in with no problem.

Sheffield Knifemakers Supply has superlative double studs in titanium or ss. The advantage to titanium in this case is that it can be heat colored to better match the Blackout finish.

For you, Dann, the price is very reasonable, and they ship Priority mail. Should cost you $15.00 or less shipped.
