Hi guys. I have been reading quite a bit about the kmg grinder and have a much better understanding. Seems like it is really versatile and works great.

So I'm almost ready to jump in. I'll be going with the kbda 29 (1p) 10001 vfd that is 240 1 phase in and 3 phase out. I spoke with kb electronics today to verify that this will indeed work on a 3hp 3 phase and I got the ok. I'll be going with the reverse and on switches.

I have some options on baldor motors. 1160, 1700 and 3500 rpm are available on various motors. Seems like the lower rpm motors are heavier but other than that and slightly different amps, I am puzzled. Seems like I will need a 6" drive wheel with the 1700 rpm so I'm still unsure. Seems like the lower rpms have more torque which is good. Will the lower rpm motor be quiter? The kbda 29 would have to use the 2x jumper with the lower rpm?

Can the kmg platen be ordered from Beaumont with the caffrey style modification? I like the increased versatility of this modification.

I appreciate the recommendations from everyone. Thanks

I would call Rob at Beaumont and ask him. I bet he helps you. I don't think noise will be an issue with any of them, you just want the best application. I would tell you what it is if I knew. My understanding is that even if you don't buy all the parts from Beaumont, they will still help you build the best machine. Be up front.

All I can offer is that I have a 3hp Baldor motor on my grinder, 1725 rpm with a 6" drive wheel and Teco VFD. Works great for me. Don't know about the jumper, I have adjusted my TecoFM50 to run up to 90 Hz output, to get some added speed for hogging. It did fine at 60 Hz max too, I just get impatient sometimes. It's a nice heavy quiet motor.

It looks like Rob helped with developing it, so can either help make the modified parts or may assemble it (sans the rubber contact wheel probably) for an additional fee. The only way to know for sure is to call and ask.

However, at least the instructions are available from Caffery's site.

Thanks for the motor specs that you use. I will probably go with a similar spec motor. The 1160 rpm would create a need for a leger drive wheel but I'm not sure how big. The 1760 rpm motor I found is a pretty good deal so I'll just have to verify the details with Rob.

Thanks again.

Rob has been quite helpful with answering the questions that I have had. That is great to see the designer be helpful with their product.

What size pulley on the motor and the grinder shaft? Thanks
