Hi all,

I own a beautifull knife that has the Al Mar logo stamped in the knife. I tried too find the knive in google and it seems to be an Al Mar Eagle Talon. There is one exception in my knife the logo is stamped in the knife without any red colour. On the knifes i found online the logo seems to be printed on the blade in the colour red.
Al Mar is not a brand you see much in the Netherlands and i am wondering if the knife is old production or fake.

Hope someone can tell me what it is.

Greetings,

Robert

there was a short time AL MAR did not use color on certain models (ones i saw were SERE folders only) these were consider GOLD STAMP.. there was a manufacturin issues some a handfull did nothave color, however if the knife was used it could wear off, but from what i understand the chemical used to stamp th eblades is seriouw chemical stuff that takes a beating

pic6tures are important

Knives with thumb studs and pocket clips are not considered "Traditional". Moving to General Forum.

I also have an Al Mar pathfinder machete that the logo is stamped rather than printed. I did some research and found out that the knives with the "GOLD STAMP" were pre-production knives. Basically made before they went into heavy production. It's legit. There were about 50 of them made for the knife that I have before they went to the red printed logo. It's a nice collection item for those who are Al Mar fans like myself...

Never seen the logo stamped like that. But you never know. Hopefully somebody else with more experience can chip in and help out.

Cant say whether or not thats the real thing, but thats a dang good looking knife - sleek, elegant package.

The knife has definitly the quality that one should expect from the real thing.

I hope someone can tell me more.

That's a great looking Al Mar knife. I have nothing useful to add.

While the Al Mar brand is associated with tactical knives, this knife looks "traditional" to me--nail nick, wood panels, lockback, no pocket clip.

MY OPINION IS:
The is NOT a USA AL MAR authorized knife, because of the stamping(my opinion).. Only the FANGS were stamp like that(in my opinion)..
I am sure it 100% good quality cause more than likely it was made at G.Sakai back in the day// G.Sakai was the main company AL MAR used/visited to have his knives made. but more than likely it was NOT made to be sold by AL MAR Co. which many times
those knives did not have to have the same fit/finish.. From what I have been told by people who know AL MAR's Co. back in the early years AL MAR was very picky and would return many knives to G.Sakai till they got it right.. AL MAR would even visit the company many times a year and give them HELL if things were not perfect.. Many of his knives at times had to be corrected cause he was not happy.. He walk the talk.. He did not mess around(my source was a personal friend) AL would not sell seconds..

All that said.. AL MAR did release NON-colored stamp versions of his knives(mostly SERE) for a short time(cant state my source, but he was personal friends)

The knives were known to collectors as GOLD STAMPED AL MARS even though they had NO COLOR.. They are pretty coollooking without the color.. SAME as your stamp color, but your stamp is different angle..

I dont have allot of experience with TALON blade Eagles so that STAMP could be correct, just my opinion its not..

I bought a LARGE SERE off gun broker that was EXACT SAME quality as my preproduction numbered SERE, but had AL MAR in RED with NO CHOP.. i was told it was a fake, but many vintage collectors consider certain AL MARS fakes that were not ment for importing cause there was a large qaulity issues(fit/finish)

Just my opinion..

Could it be a prototype? Due to the nail nick there are not much other options where the logo can be stamped due to the talon blade.

Hey Robert, thats a good point.. anything is really possible and i believe the COLOR issue was VERY EARLY so your knife being NON COLOR is a good sign especially being made in G.Sakai..

Anywyas here is a vintage AL MAR EAGLE TALON with correct stamp
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Al-Mar-Kniv...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

either way you got a NICE PIECE of AL MAR history.. AL MARS designs in general are just amazing!

Wow... the knife looks exactly like mine except voor de thump stud. The nail nick in my knife is in my opinion the reason that the stamp is in a different spot. I'm sure the knife is a real Al Mar knife now.. with the same good quality... but the thumb stud version made the production. That said... i secretly like mine better then the one with the stud. It looks more classy with the nail nick.

Thanks for the help this far.

I will measure the blade tommorow. I have a 24hour shift at the firestation today. Not surprisingly the Al is not my edc. When in service i carry a sog flash 2.

I have the exact same knife that I bought new roughly 30 years ago. The chop on mine is red though very faint. The knife came with a camo belt sheath that is now long gone. I used mine a good bit so it's a little rougher than yours but still fairly nice. Be glad to email you pics if you like.

Spoke to soon, AlMar and the chop are under the nail nick on mine. However mine is also older than the one that dax0007 posted and more like yours.
