There some online stores that I often check to see if there are new good knives. They say in that the specifications of the knives are in "mint" or "new". Does this mean that they are preowned knives? I tried asking them by email but no answer. I just wanted to make sure. Anybody know? thanks.

depends, I'll only use new if indeed the knife is unused. mint or exc condition would imply that the knife had indeed been used but had not been hurt in any way. if in doubt the best thing to do is contact the seller for clarification.

I would think that if they are describing the knife as mint, that it is preowned. If they describe it as new, it should be new, not pre-owned. However, only the online dealer can say for sure what their descriptions mean.

yes you should be very careful, especially with more expensive knives. I know of one place, that sold some pre-owned knives without any indication they were pre-owned.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …
