Question about Benchmade's "440C"

I can never get my 154CM, ATS-34, or ATS-55 blades as sharp as I can get my other blades....H-1, S30V, VG-10, 440C, 440A, 420HC, BG-42, AUS8, AUS6, and whatever Victorinox uses.

I actually avoid 154CM and ATS-34 these days.

allenC has summed it up best for me. I can never get my 154CM Benchmade auto-stryker as sharp as my other steels. Maybe it's the slightly thincker blade profile, I'm just not experienced enough to judge that with a subject-matter expert's opinion as I do not believe I am yet.

But, I do know that from what I've heard, 440C tends to have the ability to "get sharper," and stay there just as long. I'll go with that on the BM 530 I order.

Now, it's just to get it in a polished or black-coated version - either way it'll be serrated...

Thanks guys, your advice is priceless...

I agree... I can't get the 154CM or ATS34 or 55 as wickedly sharp as the VG-10 or S30V, even with careful stropping. But even though it's not as sharp as far as shaving ability goes, it's plenty sharp for EDC and holds the edge well.

The only blade I've experienced chipping with so far is a VG-10 Spyderco Native. (It got a tiny chip while field dressing a whitetail deer.) After reprofiling it, it hasn't happened again.

I do enjoy getting a blade really sharp and other steels are more satisfying in that respect, but on the other hand, I'm content with the sharpness I'm able to get with the 154CM.

Thanks for sharing you experiences. That's what makes the Forums great!

Stay sharp,
