Question about Benchmades warranty service for my Contego.

Maybe I'm asking too much of a benchmade knife, but the thing is, I cannot stand blade play. The one I have scrapes against the liners if I tighten it enough to negate blade play. I can loosen it just a hair, have blade play but no scraping. I downloaded the BM warranty papers and printed it out, but I'm hesitant to send it in because I'm not sure they can/will fix that problem. What's y'all's opinion on this?

They have some of the best customer service out there. I wouldn't hesitate to send it in if you're not happy.

Benchmade has there own forum here, you should post this there.

Benchmade has great customer service.

Benchmade is good to go as far as warranty goes. My buddy had a Mini-Grip that had some issues and Benchmade made it right without any issues.

They have a great warranty service. Send it in with a very clear description of the problem and what you would like done. Should be no problem.

Wow, I guess they have some fans here. OK, I'll send it in. Thanks for the quick responses.

Send it in.

If they can't fix the blade, the blade will be replaced.

It will be taken apart and cleaned and the springs will be replaced. They will sharpen it if you want. If you have removed the pocket clip, they will install a new one.

Or you could try tightening the pivot some to see that if that removes the play without introducing some binding.

Oh, yeah, I tightened the pivot in and out, when there is no play, the blade rubs agains that high point of the liners near the pivot. I tried tightening down and then backing out, no luck, I tried going all the way out until it was pretty loose and then tightening in, no luck. I'm gonna send it in.

Have you tried centering the blade? Several vids and threads to show you how. Sounds to me like if you were able to center the blade your issue would be resolved and there would be no need to send it in. Worth a shot at least. However, they will take care of you if you decide to send it in.

They do have great customer support but at the same time I've heard several stories of people getting their knives back with some blade play still so don't be mad if that happens to you too.

For something as little as that, unless you want something else done just try to do it yourself.

I cannot do it myself. The part of the knife handle that rises up, right at the pivot, scrapes the blade if the pivot is tight enough to prevent blade play soooooooo, either the knife design is one that requires blade play to function properly or something is really wrong with the way it was manufactured. It opens and closes, but it does so with scraping. Not a huge deal, but a knife should function the way it was made to. I'm sending it in.

Yes I did send it in, and they sent it back, and it was better, but not perfect. The knife just rubs a tiny bit which i think is due to the coating on the blade. All in all though, they took care of the problem and shipped it back quickly so I am very happy with Benchmade and their warranty service.
