I have a BM 730 ARES SBT that is ATS-34 steel.I thought that this was going to be made out of 154-CM. Does anybody know if this was a limited run or what? I'm kind of curious about it,anybodys input would be appreciated.

I think they just label it as ATS-34. It is probably actually 154-CM though. The catalog says it uses 154-CM but the picture in the same catalog (Benchmade's official 2000 catalog) shows it with ATS-34 printed on the blade. Mind boggling isnt it?

How do you like the 730? I should be getting mine by Thursday.

I think the pre-production run was ATS-34.
I have one from the first production run and it is labled as being 154CM.

Alasome is right. While there is a nationalistic advantage to 154CM in the sense that it's an American product while ATS-34 is Japanese, these two steels are almost perfectly identical. Any differences wouldn't be noticeable in use to be sure. No reason to worry, the knife is fine. Take care.
