Question about carrying your Spyderco

I've lost a couple knives because of clips but it depends how right the clip is, I carry my para 2 tip down right hand pocket.

Hi Ken,

The first few knives I bought, back when I thought the Wal-Mart display case was as good as knives got, I would always take the clip off the knife because I thought it felt awkward to hold in hand with it there.

Now, after realizing there are better quality (and more expensive) knives out there, I've grown accustomed to carrying them clipped to the inside of my right pocket (i'm right handed). It never budges from that spot and is always where I want it to be.

There are all kinds of threads about how people carry them (IWB = in waistband, took me a while to figure that out), front pocket carry, back pocket carry, different clip styles (low rider, wire clip, etc.).

When it's all said and done, I would like to assure you that pocket clips are a good way to go. The knife is always where you want it. The only drawback I can see when clips are compared to sheaths is that you lose a bit of pocket room that is now dedicated to the knife.

Another story I forgot about why I like clips now is several years ago we gave my dad a nice Case he had been wanting. He'd carry it in his pocket to work everyday as a lineman, but one day noticed he couldn't find his knife and checked his pants to find a hole in the pocket. He panicked because the knife meant a lot to him. Luckily it was found later in the bottom of the clothes hamper, and he stopped carrying that knife much. He EDC'd a Kershaw for awhile noting he liked that it could be clipped and now also EDC's a PM2 which is also clipped in his pocket.

Me personally, I hate my knives banging around against my keys or phone or other knives in my pocket. I have some trappers that got beat up that way. But fortunately that's why these knives have clips that can be switched around or removed. To each his own.

I've never lost a knife using the clip but I've had some close calls. Mostly in the car passenger side I noticed the seatbelt sometimes sneaks under the clip and pick pockets me.I always notice though.

I carry mine in my back pocket, tip down if I can. I generally don't have any problems, folks who wear baggy pants might though.

I prefer the Spydies with the wire clip and carry it tip up in my front right pocket. It is nice and snug and never lost a knife. Every now and then I examine the clip to make sure everything is in tact.

Trying out my first wire clip this week and really liking it. Very snug and classy looks plus deeper carry. I wish there was a wire clip option for all models.

Once a 6 pack of beer snatched my sebenza out of my pocket. I drove around for an hour retracing my steps to no avail, I was a broken man. When I got home it was in the trunk clipped to the beer :D

I carry a Leatherman Wingman clipped to my back left, a flashlight clipped to my front left, a pen clipped to my back right, and a Spyderco clipped, tip up, in my front right. I love pocket clips, faster, reliable access and much easier to access when sitting or in an awkward position. About once every six months I'll snag and smash the clip and mess it up, but it's an easy fix. I've never lost a knife. I just lose other stuff to make up for it. :o

I bet you were sick to your stomach when you realized it was gone.

I'm glad it worked out and you found it.

Endura - right front pocket;
Delica - left front pocket.

Never ever had a problem.

The clips are especially useful when you're not wearing a belt (e.g., basketball shorts in summertime - clipped to pocket or even inside the waistband).
