Question about Cold Steel Nightshade "knives"

I have an old school CAT tanto. I think the newer stuff is a tad different in the composition. That being said, the CAT will take a nice edge. I used my Lansky on it and put a really obtuse bevel on it and it will cut flesh with no problem. I also ground the tip back about a quarter inch (of the distal taper) where it was thicker and re-beveled it and sharpened it. The point is now much more durable. It was prone to bending when it had the longer, thinner distal taper on it.

Bottom line, the newer material on the NightShade stuff is tougher than the older stuff, I believe. If treated right with a good sharpening system it can become lethal with no problem. Some of them may need a bit of reprofiling but it can be done. I think a "new" edge on the CAT would cut through leather or denim but the edge would not last longer than a slice or two on that material. But in a self defense situation, that's all you're gonna get anyway...

I think the NightShade stuff could be a good investment...

Peace-
Cam

Really?!!:D

I don't know why but I'd always just assumed it couldn't be sharpened. Do you think I could set about mine with a Sharpmaker and put a good edge on it?
