Ok I forged out som cable damascus the a flat bar, then cut it in half length wise. I then turn the square rods in my drill press to get round rods.

What I am doing with them is going to put them into a large blade. I have the hole drilled out to the same size and the rod are inserted.

My question is do a pinning the rod in the hole before forge welding or do that when forge welding them in place?

Thanks for your help

I have been thinking about trying this out myself. My plan is to leave about 3/16 of the plug exposed on each side spot weld it just to hold it there and forge weld it in place. For the first couple of passes you will want to hit the plug only. Also the better the fit before you start the easier it will be.

Let us know how it turns out. I would like to see pics. :)

sound good hope I get some time today to try it out. I have the rod a little bigger than the hole so they are very tight fit, so hopfully it will hold it in place to forge weld. I will post pic on here when I get it welded.
Thanks for the info.
