Question about Fehrman knives.

I have a question regarding handles on Fehrman Peace Maker and Thru Hiker - are they the same in shape and size? (Of course Peace Maker's handle has micarta slabs and Thru Hiker's does not - but is it the only diference?)
I have a Thru Hiker and like this knife a lot - but now I'm starting to think about getting Peace Maker, because micarta slabs are so much convinient than strider-like cord handle that I put on my Thru Hiker.
Thanks

Same sitrep as u there!! But am now awaiting the arrival of the Peace Maker. Will let u know when I getit.

Maybe smeone has any pics?
Actually, they have some pics on the Fehrman Website:

Peace Maker

Thru Hiker

The handles on both look to be about the same shape, and according to the listed specs the Peace Maker and Thru Hiker have the same lenght of handle (4.5"). Both look like some nice mid-sized knives.

Hopfully my "Last Chance" will get to me pretty soon now. Its seems that since the company is a tool & die shop that they only have a few workers dedicated to making the knives. I am haveing a very hard time getting them to answer my emails so they must be a busy shop.

From the pics on their website the handles look a bit different to me. In the Thru Hiker the butt end seems to be more rounded and maybe more curved a bit. Maybe someone who has both knives can tell me if it's true and which handle is a preffered one - more comfortable?
Thanks

Yikes!!! My Peacemaker has been held up by the customs. Deng!!! Have to wait until Monday to get it. But if its true that the hiker and peacemaker have the same handle shape and will accept the same handle scales, I will buy a set and install it to the hiker. All this is moot until Monday...... :(

Muzzleup,
Try calling. I have gotten thru everytime and jsut found out that 1 of the shop technician had a heart attck, making the shop all out of whcak. Also they make each models a batch at a time and may have run out of that particular model u want, thereby having to put u on backorder.

Tree herder,
I will say definately that the hiker without handle scales will be the more uncomfortable of the 2... :)

Whoops!! Sorry about the image size!!!

But this is taken with the Sony Ericsson W800i fone.

Hope this helps!!

Tree Herder,
As Kevtan's last picture shows, the Thru Hiker and Peace Maker are completely different. The Thru Hiker was designed to be as economical as possible and still be very functional, a handle you could use, a stout blade with useful length and no extra weight. The TH was never designed for handles although there are three .250" holes that could be utilized for that purpose. The TH and the PM are however both made from the same high quality CPM 3V steel finished at .1875" thick. The Shadow Scout (our other 3/16" thick blade) and the Peace Maker both share the same handle design. Hope this does clear up your ?'s.

Buttonpusher,
I take it that name comes from using a cnc machinge.

My question to you is I have emailed you at least 5 times without a single reply. Can you give me a good reason for this?

There ya go, much better...!!!

Nice pics, kevtan!

May I request a few pictures with the knife in/with the kydex sheath, please?
BTW, did the sheath come with a TekLok? If not, is it possible to attach one to two of the holes or are they the wrong distance?

Thanks Guys!
You've been more than helpful! Excelent pics kevtan - Thanks! Have fun using these knives!
Like I said I like my Thru Hiker a lot - but due to a bit longer and bigger handle I think I would like Peace Maker even better.
Time to start saving up!
Fehrmans are really excellent knives and fit and finish is simply awesome!!!

Buttonpusher I have two questions.
Does Fehrmanknives Company still take international credit cards, and what is the wait time for a Peace Maker?
Thanks

Muzzleup,
You're right on the name, as far as emails go I'm not on that end of the business, but I do try to check the forums and if there are any questions and try to see that they are addressed. I'll let Eric know about the emails, we have had occasional server problems but in this instance I would imagine that it is more of a physical nature - family members with a hip replacement, a heart attack an appendectomy and a coworker's wife who is having tests for heart problems. The tool shop is also swamped. No excuses but there may be valid reasons why you did not get a reply from Eric or Andy.

Thanks, Jay

Ron,

I can't give you a good reason... I searched through my emails but I don't see any from you. Sometimes the problem is from an "over aggressive" spam filter but I don't find your name on our blacklist either?... I'm baffled.

I apologize that you haven't had your questions answered. Please feel free to post your questions here in this forum and I will do my best to answer them.

Or, if you prefer, you can try to email me at a different address... try edf@ftdinc.com

Or, if you would like you can just call me at the shop at 740-685-2637. Just ask for Eric.

Or, if you would rather, give me your phone number and I will call you on my dime.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Respectfully,
Eric Fehrman

Buttonpusher,
I just spoke to Eric and he is checking it out and will call be back.

FYI: I am a retired machinist (nuclears stuff) and I also did cnc programming for my Harding 3 axis milling center. I also ran the milling center making aircarft parts for Boeing.

My main questions was just wanting an update on my ordered knife and an approx. shipping period.

Thanks for responding,
Ciao

Here ya go! By the way they are setup for the large teklok.

The sheath for the PM is 2.3mm thick kydex and fits the knife like a tight sock. Very secure and safe. I even tried holding the sheath and swinging the arm to try to fling the PM out!! No go!!! Clicks when sheating the knife. Me likey!!

Fehrmans are monsters as tough enough.

The last pic shows the only one slightly damaged blade of peace maker caused by incorrect poly while chopping steel pipes during the whole test which involves two fist strike, one final judgement, one extreme judgement and one peace maker.

Tree Herder,

Here is my $.02 worth of picture of the Tru HIker and the Peace Maker.
Once you put the Peace Maker in your hand you won't want to put it down....it's VERY comfortable:
