Question about GEC models coming with out pins. (Hat Pins/Buttons that is)

I just bought Northfield 92 Talon SFO Red Wine Gig Bone (920116) and it did not come with any hat pin in the tube from DLT. I heard its hit or miss if a pin is included. I asked DLT about it and they said that model does not come with a pin and they include the pin in the picture if it will have one. All the current GEC pictures on their site do not show pins just the knife on a gray background. So from what they said if true they don't supply pins any more in the ones they sell.

Are the pins only supplied with the knives from some dealers? Is GEC not including them any more? Did anybody with a 92 Talon from DLT in this last batch get a pin?

I just want to understand how it works. I like the pin from my GEC Tidioute #18 Coyote and think they were a cool addition.

As far as my experience has been in the past is that even ones that have a pin designated to the knife don't always come with a pin. Hit or miss even with frames that have them? I do know that most frames don't have pins.

If I'm to interpret what DLT said, they meant that if they, DLT, receives a GEC knife that includes a pin, they, meaning DLT, will photo the Pin with the Knife that they put on their (DLT's) sales listing for that exact knife.

Just trying to be explicit. Hope this clears up some confusion.

From what I've seen, if there are pins associated with the pattern they typically get bundled in with the first "batch" of the pattern shipped to retailers. Somebody will correct me, I'm sure.

They are absolutely hit and miss even in within a given run. It is like winning a very small lottery.

I have heard that... I have also seen people want a discount in the exchange if it did not have it.

I expect it's added cost to make the art and pins for GEC. Reducing the profit but also adding to the collecting and advertising of the brand. I wonder if would lower the costs and be able to supply more pins if on SFO's they had a more generic pin that just said "KSF/SFO" or "DLT/SFO". That way they could have a batch order for pins and cover more then one pattern number. That said I expect it would also make the pins less special.... Its fun looking at the old time art of the Coyote or Mustang, or what ever the pattern is. But it also is yet another way to make a SFO more of the collectable that it already is.

I purchased 3 of the Talons from DLT and received NO PIN with either of them and I do not remember that there were even going to be any pins. I agree that the pins are a neat thing to do , but they are not deal breakers for me.
The Talons is a very nice pattern and GEC did a great job on them .

I agree. Mine is a nice knife and I was buying the knife not a hat pin. Other then the spring being proud on half stop the fit and finish is great on mine. Needs to be sharpened but that seems to be a standard thing to expect. I like how the knife came out.

I've seen that, too. I've even seen somebody refuse to buy a knife because there was no pin included with it.
Both scenarios make me LOL.

Got quite a few GECs but I've never had a pin included. Maybe they're domestic only and not for overseas ?:D:D No. Doesn't bother me as I'm not a pin collector. As for demanding discounts or charging more when there is not/is a pin..I think I might be tempted to reach for my ignore button.

If I ever get one of these pins, I'll willingly GAW.

To me, the pin is a neat little bonus, it makes me smile if I happen to pop a tube and see one. But if they discontinued them tomorrow I could honestly care less. I am buying a knife, not a pin, and it's not like I'm gonna wear the pin... So effectively it's just extra "stuff." But if some folks like them and want to seek them out, more power to them. The knife is a tool, the pin is a bit of advertising ephemera that may or may not be included. (Usually not.)

I think the people that want a discount if its not there are using the presence of the pin to help prove something is NIT and just as if they ordered it from a dealer.

In any case I think we have more then answered my question. Some do, some don't, and even some that do they don't always get one included. Its like a bonus not something to be expected.

I had to laugh too.

I'll second that, how absurd. I've a small handful of pins that went back into the tube as soon as I had taken the knife out. I expect they're still there. I have a TC one and don't even have a TC! Beats me how that happened?

I certainly could be wrong but I think all the 98 Texas Camp Knives came with buttons. If anyone bought one new and it didn't have a button I would be interested in hearing about it.

I love the buttons and they add nicely to displays and such. I also have three pinned to one of my winter coats. They seem to puzzle people.

I don't really give the buttons much thought. If they're such a big deal, I wonder how long before counterfeit buttons start showing up. You can get a button maker at art or hobby stores. Then we'll need an authority on the buttons to determine authenticity. :D ...if it's anything like antique knives, then the fakes and reworked buttons will be in higher demand than the real deal. :p

That was mine. I had listed $15 below cost NIT and the buyer backed out because it had no pin. I attributed it to the fact that they flip on ebay and perhaps couldn't resale for as much without the pin. It's amusing. :)

I saw that too and was surprised a pin was a deal breaker??? As I posted above even the ones that have a pin made for them don't always come with one.

For me, it's too early on a nice Sunday morning for this thread  If my mouth hangs any wider I'm going to start catching flies! :D
