Two cents more here Tom. I assume you have already applied and fired the stuff in question, but if you have a some leftovers, and some known Satanite, just butter a small patch of each on a piece of soft fire brick then pop that in your forge and crank it up for a few minutes. Backed by a good insulator, the patch of ITC-100 will glow hotter much faster relative to the refractory next to it at any given high temp. It is pretty obvious. I have used ITC-100 for some years and have never seen it cure out at what I would call white, but it's definitely less gray/more crystalline relative to cured Satanite.
Then again if you're re-lining an existing forge this may all be moot as your forge's operation has probably already told you whether it's the real thing or not. Night and day.
I believe the stuff gets covered with soot etc and eventually loses it's magic powers. Particles get blown around in a welding forge where some of it lands on walls that are hot enough to partially melt/weld the grime. My forges are lined with 2" kaowool, 1/4"+ Satanite, and brushed ITC-100; after a year or so I can tell if they need recoating by dabbing a spot of ITC-100 on the liner and seeing how it glows relative to the rest of the local forge wall once at operating temp. It is a slow fade in my experience, but eventually becomes quite obvious.
Good luck and I hope your vendor got this right - or made an honest mistake. Stuff is too damn expensive for this kind of noise and guesswork.
