Hopefully I'm not violating anything by asking this and I don't know if I'm supposed to say the name of the show, but I enjoy watching a certain knife show on tv that sells knives. I've never bought anything off of it, but I've been tempted and it seems like they have some nice tradtiional knives. They sell some Case and then they have other brands, and there will be deals where there might be 5 traditional knives for $40 dollars and they aren't too clear on the brand, but they will stress that they are made of German stainless steel or they are handcrafted German knives. They throw the German craftmanship around alot. I figure the deals look too good to be true at the prices, so I've never ordered anything.
Anyway, has anyone had any dealings with this knife show, specifically, what are you getting with the "German" knives they offer? Is it too good to be true or am I missing out on some nice knives at a nice price? Thanks in advance

It's fine to name the show. It will help get you the answers you're looking for.

Too good to be true.

I had a coworker who thought he could make some money if he bought a package of numerous knives for a cheap price and then sold them at a small markup to his brother and sister officers. He saw this deal on some late night infomercial on som cable channel. Unfortunately for him one of those knives was put to the test soon after he sold it to a rookie just out of field training, and I cant remember the details of the failure but news spread quickly. That was about 15 years ago and when he opens his locker I still see the piles of unsold knives littering his locker.

BTW: they were all chinese made crap. What they call german steel is probably junk they bought from a german or maybe melted down scrap from an old volkswagen Rabbit.

Hate those shows. They're selling the same thing you can get from SMKW, BudK, fleabay, etc. I won't say there's never any quality items, but you can bet they won't have many and it'll cost you. Avoid.

If you're talking about the slip joints on cutlery network , they do sell Case knives and an occasional Hen & Rooster.
The other unknown brands with vague country of origins ,are brands Jim Frost owns ( he owns H&R too ).
Most if not all of the Frost brands are imported from China and the quality is on par with Rough Rider ( which is good).
But I wouldn't pay more than a Rough Rider branded knife.
