Question about knives with elaborate file work

I'm glad you asked this because I wondered about the same thing but never looked into it. Thanks for the info and pics guys!
 
Wonderful examples of file work everyone. As far as file work goes I prefer it to be limited to bolsters and liners.

John, those are great examples of file worked liners. Todd's coined liners are wonderful and remind me of my Wostenholm IXL Senator. Craig does file work as well as can be done in my opinion. When I see the liners on one of Craig's knives I about drool.

I do know a maker that had a spring failure that was file worked inside and out. He won't do both anymore.

A lockback's spring action is dependent on a spring bar inside the handle that creates tension on the lockbar. Filing the lockbar shouldn't change the tension much, if at all. So rest assured your knife was likely lightly sprung from the factory, or something was altered when the knife was customized.
