Dear all

I am thinking of buying a Lansky kit. I think its adjustable angles would provide more versatility than my existing Sharpmaker. Diamond hones would be a great choice when I need to restored worn out blades too.
The problem is that I don't like to sharpen my knives with honing oil. Is it possible to use a Lansky kit dry, or with water? Anyone out there wants to share your experience?
thanks

The diamond hones will not need oil.

I like the Lansky because thre are more stones to choose from than the Spyderco. I dislike the Lansky because the guide should have been built much stronger, the angles on the guide will not match reality, and it will not work well on a big blade.

i have one and am rather pleased with it. diamond stones never need water, at least to my knowledge. with regular stones, either use oil always or never. either way will work.

What purpose does the oil have in the Lansky system? What happens if you don't use the oil?

Thanks,

Art

Thanks all. Glad to learn that no oil is needed for both the stone and diamon. I may just add a few drop of water on diamond, though.
Leroy,
did you get my email? I sent the knives to you on Monday this week.

TD,

You don't even need to use water WHILE sharpening with diamond stones. But do the experiment yourself, you might want to try both methods, adding a few drop of water or use the diamond stones completely dry. The only time I use water is when I think the stones are clogged. Oh BTW, you do have to do this frequently, I mean cleaning your stones regularly.
