G'Day, I tried responding to Jackies' question re the Victorian fires and my response stated I had to contact the Administrator or something similar and wouldnt allow the post to stand. My daughter and granddaughter were evacuated and stayed with us for 6 weeks. My son in law who is Artillery Sergeant was marshalled as many of his Army buddies were to help build fire breaks and to search the burnt out homesteads of which there were some 2000 homesteads destroyed with over 200 loss of life. One poignant picture which gives idea of the ferocity and lack of time these poor blighters got to escape was of the youngish father burnt to death out the front of his homestead with his garden hose still in his hands with his wife and young children burnt to death inside..an absolute tragedy...but they are now rebuilding such is the human spirit...
Anyway it looks like I may have served my time in the 'Sin Bin' if this post actually sticks....Hoo Roo.
Welcome back Larry.
Glad to see you fared OK through the firestorm.
Our hearts & prayers go out to your countrymen who did not fare as well.
Our countries sprang from the same womb.
It is sad to see the tragedy that has inflicted itself on the Noble Lady of the South, but it is good to know that she has survived, her spirit intact.
