Question about laser engraved Spyderco Dice CTS-XHP

I got a spyderco dice for christmas from my sister and it was personalized with my "full" name on the cts-xhp blade.
I did not have the heart to tell my sister that I hate personalized gifts especially since she got me such a thoughtful gift, I thought it would be pretty uncouth to mention how tacky it looks to me.
My question is this: is there anyway to make the laser engraved/etched name on the blade fade with a chemical? Perhaps some mustard or other acidic vinegary liquid? It isn't like I won't carry the knife because of it, it's just that every time I open the knife it really "pops" with the name and if I could fade it at all it wouldn't be so glaring..... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Dusty

On XHP I'd think you'd have to use a stronger acid to etch it as it's fairly stainless. An etch and stone wash should pretty well remedy it.

I wouldn't do it though. I share your distaste for personalized stuff and laser etched blades, but I'd leave it as a tacky reminder that your sister loves you enough to buy such a cool gift and then go one step farther. It'll also avoid that awkward moment later where you have to try to explain what happened to it.

You're probably right. I'll get used to it and after a few months of regular use it will probably even grow on me. It was such an out of the blue gift from her, she knows I like and collect knives but how she knew to get me a titanium framelock knife from spyderco I have no idea, she took a wild shot in the dark and definitely hit the mark as far as my taste in knives go....... Pretty cool.

Yes and remember, you don't need to worry about appearances. Most of the world thinks you're a swivel-headed lunatic for carrying a knife at all. They're not going to balk at your name on the blade.

Yeah, you gotta appreciate a sister like that. Never had one; wish I did.

Y'all need another brother? Very nice gesture on her part, cool sister! I would agree to leave it. After a while, you'll probably be glad ya did! Whatever you decide, just enjoy the knife!

Aww man, now I feel douchey. I should know better. Yeah I'll just leave it as is. I never really looked at the Dice honestly but I was intrigued by the Domino awhile back and I do usually prefer the smaller variants of production knives ie: 3" RHK XM vs 3.5, Delica vs Endura, Dice vs. Domino, lil matriarch vs matriarch, etc.... I tried to upload a picture but to no avail, not sure why my pic would need a url to upload........
