about to start working on my first Knife. I purchased some precision ground 0 1 tool steel and was wondering if it comes annealed usually, or if I'll have to do it before I start work. I ordered through Jantz. Thanks guys!

I bought some PG 1095 from Jantz and it seems far harder than Aldos 1084. I bought the steel years ago though. I've broken several bits trying to drill it, but it's possible my technique was bad spot hardening it. The 1084 drilled fine though.

You could always call or email Jantz.

Most of the tool steels come annealed. As for carbon steels like 1080, 1095, 5160 they will be in the hot rolled as rolled condition IF they are rolled bars. High Carbon strip and sheet steels will typically come Hot rolled, pickled and annealed. Your 0-1, if precision ground, would come in the annealed state. You should be able to go right at it.
