Question about putting a flat black finish on a blade

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a coating that I could put on stainless steel blade to make it a flat black. I've heard of such finishes as duracoat (?)

I remember going to a website of a company in Austin, Texas that specialized in putting coats on guns and knives. Unfortunately I can't find the site anymore.
I am looking for something that will get rid of the shine of a stainless steel knife and can also serve to protect it from the elements. Also I would like the coat to be almost permanent where I don't have to re coat it every 3 months.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Unless you use an expensive coating of titanium nitride or something similar, whatever you put on the blade will come off, especially the paints like Duracoat or Teflon. There is no need to protect stainless steel from the elements.
Black blades are passe, anyway.

It's possible, but not practical. Bluing stainless is not something that can be done at home. It's still a fragile surface coating that will scratch and wear as soon as you cut something.
