Question about shipping.

On looking through the various 'for sale' areas I've noticed that a lot of people will only ship within America. I'm just wondering what the issues are and if they can be solved so people like me over here on the other side of the planet can buy stuff.

Note to the paranoid: NO, I'm not complaining about anyone's shipping policies, people are perfectly entitled to ship, or not ship, anywhere they do, or don't, like.

So, I guess my question is: If you will only ship within America, is there anything that particularly concerns you about shipping overseas and, if so, is there anything that the buyer could do to alleviate your concerns?

If you simply don't want to do it, fine.

Concerns are Customs issues. The buyer can agree it is not the sellers problem, but that does not prevent them from having an issue with the sale if it does wind up happening.

Higher risk of Lost, stolen,or long delay's in delivery

Difficulty is package tracking or no insured delivery available to some areas of the World.

Higher probability of fraud or false credit card and/or Paypal claims.

Almost no recourse legal or otherwise to pursue any fraudulent behavior

I'm not totally refusing to do business with our overseas brothers and sisters, but there are some higher risks when doing overseas transactions.I hope this answers some of your questions.

Yes, thank you Tombstone for your reply. I suspected many of the issues you raised would be the case.

I guess the only recourse for people like me would be to ask, nicely, if the seller would mind shipping overseas based on certain conditions. For instance, last time I did buy something I sent the guy the money via Western Union transfer so he had the money in his hand before he shipped anything.

i'll ship anywhere as long as we have an understanding that if it gets lost, if customs seize it, if a star falls from the sky and crushes the package, i am not liable and its not my problem, of if its stolen i'll go thru the motions with the shipper, but my obligations end when i ship the item.

also unless i know ya i will need the $$ in hand prior to shipping.

Sounds fair to me.
