Question about Spyderco Native

I really like the look of the Native and I'm thinking of getting a plain edge version. None of the stores around me carry them though. Does anyone know what the differences were as the Native models evolved? I'd be particularly interested in knowing how the versions relate in terms of handle thickness.

Thanks a lot!

Here is a link to the ultimate source of info on Spyderco knives - Ted van der Voorde's List of all Spyderco models.

Check the info regarding the C41 Native and Native II (SS version) and the C78 Native III.

Hope this helps!

I was surprised to find that none of the WalMarts around me carry the Native!
Thanks for the website, I'll check it out.

Zippin:

You can go to Walmart.com, order a Native ($39.95), and have it shipped to a WalMart store near you to be picked up.

Aside from the very early "BRK 1st Generation" version that shows up on eBay, all the "generations" of the FRN C41 Native have had the same basic dimensions and used the same handle. Only differences have been steel and the absence or presence of the David Boye Dent in the lockbar. Earliest were GIN-1 with no dent, then came CPM-440V with no dent, then CPM-440V with the Boye dent, and finally the current version with CPM-S30V and the Boye dent.

The C78 Native III has a thicker handle with palm swells and heel rests, raised "traction bumps" instead of traction grooves in the spine, is made in Japan rather than here, and uses VG-10 steel.
