Question about the Bubble Jig

I plan to order one of Fred's Bubble Jigs today but have a question for all you who also got his file guide.

I already have the Carbide File Guide from Uncle Al and it's great to use. It also set me back a pretty penny. I like that it will clamp to my 3/32 kitchen knives and my understanding is that Fred's won't clamp to stock that thin.

Are there any of you who have Uncle Al's file guilde who also have Fred's file guide? If so, which one do you find that you turn to most often?

I don't mind getting the one from fred for only $25 more but don't want to get it if I won't be using it.

Seems to me that if the bubble jig fits between the screws on the one you have, no reason to get another.

You can use the one you have if you do not mind it getting so close to the grinding belt. With the BBJ Clamp you can run the belt right up to it and not be worried about ruining it.

That clamp you have looks to nice to be butting up against a 36 grit belt at 3600 rpm like a bat out of hell.

Actually it has a carbide face so I don't worry at all about damage from the belts. I can run it right up the belt edge and get no damage whatsoever.

I did watch Fred's video on grinding a folding knife with the jig and he clamped the clamp on the end of the tang to make a tang extention. I do like that.

The clamp you have will work just fine with the BJ. The only difference and or advantage to using the clamp that comes with the BJ is being able to grind with the "three point" grip; that is shown in the videos.
Positioning your thumb on the looped end of the clamp adds a lot of control to the grind.
