I just got one and to my surprise it is not translucent.

I thought I had read somewhere that the new light-weight
Manix was to be translucent like the blue one except its
in black - did I read that wrong..?

Unless there's a model that I'm not aware of, I believe the only color of the Manix 2 that comes translucent is the blue one, the black colorway is solid black.

It was first seen as a prototype in the IWA show in Germany early last year and it was a solid black handle even back then. I dig it, I have the trans blue, but if I was in the market for one, I'd have a tough time choosing between the two. One up for the Torx pivot on the black though, are the newer blue ones gonna have screwed pivot also?

YES...here is the one that I received for Christmas. I was thrilled about the screw pivot.

The only reason I didn't buy the lightweight version is because of the pin construction. If they come out with a lightweight version with all screw construction, I'm buying it. It's kind of silly that they used pins on a ~$70 knife.

yes, a black one has been released... but its not translucent (smoke) by anymeans

Mine came fitted nicely out the box and the lock does self adjust. Cleaning's a breeze with hot water and dish soap, wd40, then compressed air then lube. So experienced no issues with it pinned. Plenty models were pinned and also ran well in the past. Of course, Id def still prefer at least the pivot to be screwed and its nice to see they listened, even better now that the new ones have a screw.

Has anyone actually had a prob with a pinned pivot? People sometimes avoid them, but I've never had an issue with one. My pinned Centofante III pivot rocks, and my pinned blue Manix 2 lightweight has no blade play and flicks open just right. So I sorta dig them.

The Pinned Manix I got in a trade is as solid as any of my other screw pivot knives so far.

I have a pinned Manix 2 Blue Lightweight and I've had no problems and I'm not concerned about it. I think pinned construction has benefits such as if you're going on an extended adventure without tools. One less thing that can go wrong.

I too have owned a few with the pinned construction (Centofante 3, Centofante 4 and Blue LW Manix 2) and never had an issue with blade centering or play that would have required adjustment. It is nice to see an adjustable pivot on the new LW black Manix 2, but it definitely was not a deciding factor in whether or not I would buy it.

I thought a certain dealer had a black translucent model as well. Might have been knifecenter

My black one that just arrived is not translucent. 2013 catalog shows a solid black one next to the translucent blue one.
I've carried an original Manix on my belt since they first came out, this lightweight version I think will end up in a Maxpedition Indy bag with other essential odds & ends.
Still prefer the heft of the heavier Manixes of the earlier generations in use, but where weight's a consideration...

The one shown on Spyderco's website is definitely translucent. Looking at them side-by-side, you can see that the lighter and more transparent portions of the blue handle appear the same on the black model (Spyderco, I hope you don't mind me hotlinking your photos):

So they are smoke then? If that's the case, I might have to check into getting one of these. I like them much more than the blue.
