Question about the newest Light-weight Manix

I dunno, I'm sortof partial to the pinned construction. I was skeptical but, been carrying the blue translucent since shortly after it was released and have had zero problems or need for adjustment from EDC use.

Plus it looks cleaner in a way with the FRCP handles :p

The brand new black one that arrived here directly from Spyderco two days ago is SOLID BLACK. No smoke, no see-through anywhere to any degree.

That is the same one I got - but I was looking for translucent and since that is the only reason why I got mine, I returned it.
I hope Spyderco comes out with more tranlucent Manix 2's and more colors (Orange hint hint ;-)

I think that both the translucent blue and the solid black look nice. Though I dig my translucent blue, the solid black sorta does away with the cheapy or toy-like quality of the blue see-through plastic. JMO.

I got the translucent blue one a week ago. They are not adjustable and I have blade play after opening and closing.
disappointed with this one.
Cheers

I got my black one about two weeks ago through a distributor. Definately not smoke on mine. Thought it was going to be smoke but not a deal breaker. "Production prototytpe photo" in my 2013 catalogue is semi translucent not solid black for sure. Smoke would look coool, but I have to say translucent orange would be awesome.

I would freak out for a translucent "80s squirt gun" green. Or neon pink. That would be nuts!

Sorry to hear that. There is a revision of the blue that has a screw at the pivot instead of a pin. That one can be adjusted. I received a pinned (non-adjustable) model, but mine was assembled perfectly and the pivot not only has no play in any direction, but it's also got the perfect amount of tension.

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to get it swapped in Canada, but you might look into getting a replacement with the pivot screw, either from Spyderco or your distributor.

Thanks for the advice allyourblood.
I also have a stretch zdp-189 with issues, It is only fair to contact the company first, then go from there.
Cheers.

Has anyone actually had a prob with a pinned pivot? People sometimes avoid them, but I've never had an issue with one. My pinned Centofante III pivot rocks, and my pinned blue Manix 2 lightweight has no blade play and flicks open just right. So I sorta dig them.

My Native lightweight has a barely noticeable amount of side to side wiggle. It isn't enough to notice if you aren't testing for it, but I wouldn't consider it acceptable in a "collection" knife. Thankfully my Native is a pure user :D

They could have just changed the blue to black in photoshop as well. It would save shooting a new picture.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened. All elements of both knives are in identical positions. One more telltale sign: the pivot on the black model is pinned when it should be a torx screw (I think this is standard from now on, no?).
