And it was sharp when I received it but I spent a little time with a mouse pad and some sand paper and now Wow I got me a shaver Bowie I'm at 800 grit right now I normally like to stop at 2000

It is for me a collection only knife, it is a light and fast in hand knife that would lend itself really well to be a fighting knife

Behind the tip on the belly much like a traditional Khukri. Its usually the general area where if you where to put the knife on a flat surface with the handle or guard touching on the handle side and the edge touching on the other side (obviously with the spine up). The area where the edge touches the surface is the general location where the sweet spot will be. Not exactly but pretty close. In reality you will have to play around with it a bit to get the feel of it and find the real "sweet spot". The Kamis try to harden it where the sweet spot will be and do a pretty dang good job at it. From the examples I own I have seen that they tend to harden longer straight blades a little wider and further down towards the handle. As you use them you will begin to see the temper line on the blade show up with wear and you will know for sure. It might not be so obvious on a villager but as long as you dont go batoning hardwood you should be fine with general usage. Whackin the heads off crappie should be a snap

Lol haha thanks ndoghouse and I was quite surprised to see the double edge on my bowie it's my first bowie Ever and I couldn't be more excited!!!!
Now I have my eyes on a AK bowie and a Cherokee rose if they ever show up again lol hahaha but hopefully not to soon cause wife still hasn't figured out what was in the triangle box the other day lol haha

The AK Bowie is a real treat. Something different for sure. I have a pretty good collection of them and they all have their place. I carry the micro to work with me every day thanks to that bawanna dude:thumbup: The full size 15" one is a beast chopper and very capable of total destruction. When I first came to HI I was interested in Khukris not Bowies and other "regular" knives. Well that changed as soon as I got my first Blem AKB. Ive had other big choppers before but these were first class all the way! Grab one if you get a chance. I highly recommend them:thumbup:

Ndog Kami and Bawanna are our resident bowie enthusiasts. I never get tired of looking at pictures of people's collections

I wonder? Thats pretty dang close to the real thing tho. I suppose they decided to put their twist on it with the wire wrap and Yingyang. Yuvraj definitely has at least seen pictures of it. This one aint goin to no sandbar anytime soon;) Ironic they went with the wood sheath. The original leather covered one with a chape and brass fittings would have been cool too but I do like the wood.

Suddenly I want to find out which version of the Bowie was most likely the one Jim Bowie had at the Alamo.

something i read recently decided he had one of these:

6 in. bladed sheffield bowie.

not the big honkin' bowies we associate with the name.

he'd gotten older & settled down, got smarter & didn't need a big flamboyant weapon anymore.
he was smart enough not to bring a knife to a gunfight & probably had one as a utility knife & for
when he ran out of pistols. plus at the end he was too ill & wasn't in shape enough to wield a big blade.

Kron, The blade you chose as a picture for Bowie has a "Spanish notch" an item I equate to a cho...and just as murky about it's reason for existence LOL. I think the versions he is known for carrying generally did not have that "notch"? Understand that I am not positive, just something I think I saw somewhere. Otherwise I think you are correct from what I can interpret of what I read. I am one of those people who believes that James Black would have created the knife Jim Bowie probably was wearing when he was at the Alamo created based on Jim's specific request for modifications of the original knife designed by Rezin and made by Clifft that he used at the Sandbar. Though there is no proof that he was still carrying that blade, it was the last one we can trace to him prior to his arrival at the Alamo, and being a slightly smaller blade makes it more likely he was still able to use it functionally to some degree even while ill. Most people who research it believe that Jim died propped up in his bed after he ran out of pistol ammo by soldiers that stayed out of reach of his blade and shot him. Based on what they identify as the type of illness and the timing of when he caught it, I can't disagree that is likely the case. You want to think a man who survived being shot twice, hit over the head with a pistol, stabbed 7 times and run through the chest with a sword cane all in the same fight (and actually won) wouldn't be so weak with ANY illness that he couldn't successfully defend himself with his blade, but unfortunately that appears to be the case based on all available information.

I've heard arguments that he had a severe respiratory infection due to injuries sustained in the Vidalia Sandbar Fight, and that he had advanced Tuberculosis. As much I wouldn't want to admit that he was laid low by disease, it does seem to be true. Now if only Texas knife laws didn't prohibit carrying Bowies, and daggers, dirks, and various and sundry interesting blades. They already took auto openers off the books, so I can hope. For the time being I reside in a state where as long as you don't do anything stupid, and aren't a criminal you can carry most anything you want openly or concealed.

i heard that that an army unit in texas was called up to to to the big sand pit & were not issued with bayonets because the blades were over the state limit of 5 in. and might scare the locals.

don't worry scara, i'm sure there is a liberal group in your state that will insure that the sheeple are not offended by nasty looking guns and sharp pointy things. it's the democratic way. if we can save just one child from the heartbreak of psoriasis, it will all be worth it.

Ha! The locals have shotguns, AR15's, everything else you could imagine. I've been to Phar, Alamo, and Donna a few times. Many of the farmers have even built stairs (people leave gates open) over their fences because they are tired of having to repair them and chase their livestock down on a daily basis. They dont worry about immigrants crossing their property. They even leave water out for them. Its the Coyotes (human traffickers) and drug traffickers they have to protect themselves from. They will crash into your house shoot you or whatever to ecape justice. Mostly the people beyond the sandbar (city folk-liberals and conservatives alike) that freak out when they see anything that the media has planted in their brains as fearful. Theres still more sheeple than people. Thats the problem.

Maybe we should just ask Bookie? I think he was there. Go straight to the source as it were.

Now theres an ideer! ...nnahhhh. Battle of San Jacinto probably clouded his memory.

Come on ndoghouse, you and I both know that battle was a resounding victory with relatively few casualties for the Texans. Or are you saying Bookie was fighting for Santa Ana.

And Kronckew, I hold out hope that the laws will change for the better. They've already legalized auto-openers and there are already state senators drafting legislation to legalize more.
