Question about using Mammoth ivory for HI khuks

While probably not applicable on for khuks, alot of traditional Moro ivory carving involves gluing and pinning the crests, and other parts that would not be possible without a huge piece of ivory. When done properly it is very hard to notice, and I have known many people who are long time collectors, who never do. If it does show, it usually looks just like a grain line, so is often dismissed. Now I dont remember where I was going with this:confused: Oh well....

anything about finishing up a piece of ivory? Can you buff with a wheel, does it need any surface treatment like wax? If not, that's okay. We'll all know shortly after mine arrives. Experiments invariably yield results:)

I''ll od a searhc on the web, but can't search Bladeforums jsut yet.

If you know how to work with water buffalo horn you can work with ivory.:D Though the few ivory pieces I have, are harder than water buffalo horn, but then again, old ivory takes on different properties.

worked plenty of bone, antler, and horn. If its hard and grows outta an animal, I bet I can work with it
