this is only the second time i've ordered a knife online so i'm a bit of a noob to the online knife scene i guess :o

i'm also not familiar with USPS so i was hoping that theres a forumite out there who can help me out with my question.

I ordered a knife from NewGraham because the first time i ordered from them the transaction went very smoothly and communication was great.

i ordered a boker subcom FB and it says on the USPS website:

Status: Acceptance

Your item was accepted at 3:45 PM on January 25, 2008 in BLUEFIELD, VA 24605. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

i check it on a daily basis and there has been no movement or updates on the site for the past week.

the last knife i ordered made it no problem and provided alot of tracking information.

was just wondering if this is something common which happens to USPS packages.

thanks guys

JC

do you live in bluefield, va? or is that where new graham is?

in my experience, usps takes no longer than a week to ship a package conus. but tracking is sometimes not up to date on the web.

looks to me like bluefield is the starting point, and it is currently in transit to you. when it arrives at your local hub it will show up as such via the tracking number.

I use USPS all the time and rarely do I have a problem with them. Give it a little more time before you worry too much.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

On regular shipments with USPS Priority Mail, I have found that even with delivery confirmation or signature required, the package will be received long before tracking is updated. Now if it was shipped next day priority, sometimes the tracking is kept up to date. Just hang tight, it will show up and after you get it check the tracking a couple days later and it will tell you, you have received it. So much for Govt efficiency.

try putting your usps tracking number into the canadapost.ca tracking system. You might get a hit and see if it has landed in canada yet.

yes, forgot to mention. Great idea! In fact, once it hits Canada, you usually get tracking from there. It usually tells you which sorting location its headed, and when its out for delivery and etc.

That sort of info from the USPS site is typical, and nothing to be alarmed about. They do NOT provide step-by-step tracking in the way that UPS does.

Cougar: thanks for moving the post to the right place, i wasnt really sure where to put it but glad it made it in the end.

i've tried putting the tracking number in canadapost and i'm getting the same response that no tracking information is available.

thanks guy i'll sit tight and hope it makes it, i'm really lookin forward to the boker subcom FB i ordered for my PSK

cheers

Very often I've found that the USPS tracking is never updated — the package has long since arrived before it changes.

Exactly...That's one of the reasons why I won't ship outside of the USA..."Customs" can hold items for as long as they want to...

Thats true, but if it is Express, then they will get inspected and go thru real fast. Priority is likewise too. I think first class is the slowest in going thru customs, as the priorities and expresses need to go first.

On Dec. 22nd I purchased a knife that was shipped USPS from TN. I received the knife 3 weeks later in mid-January. For those 3 weeks the USPS tracking number indicated that the package had never left TN.

At one point the vendor insisted that I had received the item when I had not; he seemed to have some delivery confirmation from the USPS.
When the box finally arrived I was surprised to see that it had been sent priority, or whatever the USPS service calls their 2nd day air; I was even more surprised to see that it had actually gone out on the 23rd of December.

As I made inquiries I was told that the seller could not track the package until it had gone missing for at least 30 days.
