Question About Winkler Field Knife

Thanks JJ, that's reassuring. I figured it's a little on the thick side, but I've managed to thin and convex similarly (probably worse) thick blades, like Busses, so with a little patience I can probably get the edge where I need it to be.

And like you said, a thinner knife for food prep would be an easy enough solution. I still wanted to know if pressed into the food prep role, the blade would be safe. Field dressing game is one thing, but cutting meats off the grill/ fire might be another.

Sometimes we'll spit a lamb or pig--I'd like to know if l could carve with the knife. Sounds like I probably can.
 
In case anyone was wondering--and for future reference--this is part of a reply I received from Winkler Knives:

"The Caswell is nontoxic, but it can alter the taste. I suggest using a food safe mineral oil on the blade. The Field Knife is a great choice for outdoor/camping chores. Daniel designed it for these tasks and carries it personally."

That was good enough for me--order placed.
