i have a question. if i want to make a kydex sheath but i want the back of sheath flat and just the front side molded. how do i set this up in the press? do i set something under the blade that is hard and lay the piece of kydex on top of blade and press then attach it to the back flat piece of kydex?

I did something similar. I cut a piece of 1/4" plywood to go around the blade on top. Used a piece of plywood underneath. Heated up the kydex put it over the blade, put cut out on top. and then foam pad. I used a 80lbs dumbbell to clamp it. Thats how I made a gang sheath for chisels to go on a tool belt. 3 chisels in one sheath.

This may be a little off topic, but an FYI to those using Kydex: Knifekits.com has some black and olive drab 12 x 12 sheets on clearance for scratch and ding defects.

I just picked some up, my sheaths get scratched and dinged up anyway.
