Question bout my new Umnumzaan

I have a new Umnumzaan, has never been carried or used, just got it of a forum member. Am super happy with it, my first CRK!
had one question. I did notice that there is a tiny tiny bit of up and down play on the blade( very tiny bit). I am still kinda new to folding knives so am not sure what exactly classifies as lock rock or not. I looked more closely at the knife and noticed the rubber O rings that are used. Could this be the reason for the tiny amount of play in the blade, the fact that the rubber compresses a bit when it hits the frame? Does anyone else notice this with their Umnumzaan? I really dont wanna send it in since I've heard it can take forever to get it back!
thanks appreciate any help!

No worries, it's normal. It'll stop once the rings settle. On the flip side turn around from CRK is about a month should you ever have to send one in.

thats good to hear! an that turn around time isn't so bad, i thought it was a lot longer.
thanks!

Up and down play is not normal on an umnumzann. Now I'm not sure how much play were talking about but if its noticeable and your not forcing it then you might consider sending it in. Id first take it apart, clean it and put it back together. Tinker with it and examine the lock up, etc. If you have no luck send it to CRK and they'll have you back up and running in a couple weeks.

it is very slight and I do have to put some negative pressure on the blade to notice it at all..not sure if its anything to worry about or not atm

There was just a thread about a fellow sending his Sebenza 25 in for lock-rock and it came back with lock-rock. CRK said the knife was in spec and added a little more tension to the lockbar. The Umnumzaan has the same lock interface.

Lock-rock shouldn't be noticeable during regular use. Also, lock-rock doesn't mean a lock is unsafe. If you wonder about the reliability of your particular knife, you should test it yourself to make sure you can depend on it.

The lock may wear in and lessen the lock-rock.

I have a high-end knife with lock-rock but I have stress-tested the lock and I trust it. I think my standards are just too high.
I guess nothing is perfect. *shrug*

I had that with my umnum, it was the ceramic ball doesn't provide as good of a lockup contact as the solid titanium

Mine has no play at all, none of my CRK knives do. I would second the recommendation of an above poster and take it apart and clean it. Maybe change out the rings too, and see if that takes care of the problem.

how the hell do you take this thing apart?? It has the new pivot, i was able to remove the male part of the pivot but now the female part is still stuck in there and when I try and unscrew it it just keeps turning in the hole???? what am i doin wrong?

Use something to push it through.
Do this while it is closed. The pivot will be under tension when it is locked open.

tried everything man it wont budge, feels like its super glued in there!!! pretty frustrating, i thought these were the easiest knives to take apart lol

Don't try to take the blade out when the knife is locked open, that might be your problem. There are some good take down vids on YouTube you should check out

Yea i've kept it closed but it still wont budge! I couldn't find any vids on youtube with the NEW pivot. Do you have any vid links you would know of showing how to take apart with the new pivot?

New pivot or old pivot, they still function the exact same.
Only the looks have changed.

If it spins, like you said it does, it's not stuck. ;)

thats what I thought it seems so strange! It does spin but needs quite a bit of force and just spins and goes nowhere, doesnt seem like there is a thread there for it to "spin" out of. I'm stumped, it looks like such a simple design. I'm sure I'm doing something way wrong haha

You need to think about how it is constructed. There are no threads on the outside of the female pivot.
Take the hex wrench, put it inside the female pivot, from the other side, while the knife is closed, and push.

The only difference between the knives is the tool that you use for the pivot, the diameter is the same. I have a new pivot model and the take down is the same. Nullity is giving great advice on how to do it:thumbup:
