If I put a knife up for sale, and then cut the price repeatedly and condsiderably with every bump, was I trying to make a profit initially, or am I just willing to take a sizable loss on each sale?

When I make the decision to sell a knife, I generally keep trying until I move it. I start at what I think is a fair price and drop it until it goes. In all honesty and fairness, I generally start out at slightly less than I paid when new, or what I paid used if it is in the same condition. Of course, sometimes a great deal initially can yield a slight profit if the right buyer comes along at the right time. As long as you are not buying with the intent to resell everything at a profit, everything is cool.

With a couple possible exceptions I do not think that the people on this forum are trying to make a profit off selling knives. You might. Thats ok. Sell them for whatever you want, they are yours. If people are willing to pay the price, that is what they are worth. If they don't it is up to you if you want to sell them or just hold on to them. The one sale post of yours I saw I remember wishing I had caught it earlier. All the prices were beyond reasonable and you had several pieces I would have snatched up had I not been slow. I don't think you have any cause for concern.

Anyone can list whatever price they want on a knife, or any other item.

If the market for that knife is high, the seller of course is going to list it as high as possible, and possibly drop the price if no one has shown an interest.

There are no rules here at BFC stating that you must list a knife at a certain price. It is the individuals choice, and if any of us disagree with the individuals price, we can either make an offer, or go do business with someone who lists a lower price.

Remember, we live in a capitalist society. We sell goods based on what the market will bear, and we buy based on price, value, need, want, or desire.

I hope this is the answer you are looking for.

Feel free to e mail me if you need more details, or clarification.
