Question for all the Lefties

I really really want a Carnivour, but can't decide if I should get the Left-Handed model. It looks like I'd have to pay full retail for the LH, but could get a standard one for much less. What do you guys carry?
Does the regular Carnivour work well left-handed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

wkrafft, I am not that familiar with the Carnivour, but I love the BM Axis #710 and the BM AFCK is also available in left handed and is very nice. In an auto. the MT NEMESIS is my favorite by far and have had 3 custom lefty autos. made. The BF Spyderco Native is nice too. IMHO GET THE LEFTY. Lefties shouldn't settle for righties and I like to watch righties struggle with left handed knives.

Can't help much with Carnivoir-specific info but my advise is to put your emphasis on the knife's egonomics -- i.e., its "fit" in your hand.

I'm left-handed as are about half of my folders but I find I switch off equally well between LH and RH models because they all were selected for their "fit." All things being equal, I'd opt for a LH version but not at a significantly higher price.

Hope it helps. I'm sure you'll get some specs from those who've used the Carnivoir!
Good luck

wkraft,

I am a lefty that uses a RH Carny
smile.gif
. I don't have any problems operating the Rolling Lock with my pointing finger. In fact I prefer the lock on be RH
smile.gif
. I ordered a SIFU in LH, and found I didn't like the lock actuated with my thumb

. I use the Carny in Mike Sastre sheath and have removed the clip.

Knife comes out FAST and ready to R&R.

I was going to drill and tap thru the G-10 and handle for lefty carry, but I haven't bothered to do it yet. If you don't plan on using the clip, then the RH model is no problem. The RH model is also about ~40% LESS than the LH model!

The only issue is the clip being on the wrong side, NOT the unlocking mechanism of the RL switch. If you need some help converting it for clip carry, I can do it for you (you just
have to pay for shipping costs round trip).

Good luck, the Carnivour is SOLID knife - strongest lock out there IMHO, and one of the most reliable!

Does any lefty like a right handed liner lock? I think it's difficult and too many fingers get in the way of the blade. Does any lefties not like the BM Axis or a lefty AFCK? I am going to check out this lefty Carnivoir. Let's try it get a LEFTIES FORUM!

I have a RH Carnivour and don't have any problems closing it with my left hand. Opening it is another matter, but if you hold the Rolling Lock back, you can open it with a wrist flick.

With the new ones having ambi thumbstuds, I find this to be an excellent knife indeed. IMHO, I don't care if it takes an extra second to close as long as I can open it fast...

Thanks everybody for your replies.

Sounds like the right-handed model should work just fine for me, especially at a lower cost.

Spark:
Great to hear you can flick open the blade by pulling the release ala axis-lock.

maddog2020:
The clip shouldn't be a probelm since I'm hoping to get a concealex horizontal carry sheath for the Carnivour.
I've already e-mailed Mike at River City and am waiting a reply.

RGRAY:
I hate RH liner-locks in my left hand, but use RH models in my right hand as backups.
I also have the 710 axis and a LH Stryker,
both are incredible lefty knives. The only reason I don't want an LH AFCK is that I'm trying to stay away from liner-locks.

Thanks again everybody

Walter
