Question for all you minimalizers (and no, I don't mean minimalists).

Hello TDG,

I have been biting my tongue and holding back a serious post,, waiting in the hopes that some one else would have thought of it by now since your starting post in this thread.. That post made me think I was in the twilight zone.. Because your thoughts are my thoughts exactly!.

I have been very quietly giving away knives to folks on this forum as well as my friends and acquaintances in my every day life as well. I try to give away at least 1-3 knives per month. I have even given away 3 knives in addition to the auction knife to go with some of my eBay Auctions in the last several months. I don't give them away to just everyone mind you. I give quality knives to those folks that seem to either really have a use for them and or would really appreciate the gesture because they have a real need and others that don't have access to a good American made slippy's or their finances do not go far enough budget wise to afford one, and yet other folks that I just give it away for the hell of it, to make someone feel good in the hopes that they will pass the gesture on some day to help someone else out when the time is right for them.

The knives I give to my fellow man and woman are never junkers, in fact they are more often unused and vintage knives, all have been made in the USA and none have been nothing less than VG-Excellent......

OK NOW, MY POINT IS:

Here in the "traditional forum" we have the perfect venue of folk in which to part with some of our FINER knives that we will never use, to IMO, some of the finest Folks on the Internet.. If you read/listen very closely you will find more than just a handful of folks well worthy of such gifts. And it does the soul good, "To Give, Rather Than To Receive"!.

JUST MY .02 cents on the subject.. Thank You, TDG for sharing my same thoughts and the opportunity of documenting them publicly here in the greatest knife forum on the globe..

Like Jackknife, I've found myself more minimalist in my retirement with a somehow greater need for owning "using" knives rather than "collectors".In my case, "collector" often means "accumulator". Anyway, I found myself with a couple hundred knives that would never see any usage by me. Some of them probably actually fit the catagory of "collectable" but I realized that that they would likely end up in a garage sale unless I somehow I arranged otherwise. Enter my five grandsons. A couple trips to local gun and knife shows helped plant and nurture a love and facination for knives in each of them. Discussions and introduction to knife media, Bernard Levine and this forum completed the job. I am now blessed with five knife nuts and worthy receivers of most of my collection, errr, accumulation. Fortunately, they each have somewhat different tastes, one is really into fixed blades, another tacticals, another is into Remington "Bullets" and one other just loves custom folders. They are now the proud owners of nearly all of my stash. I'm reduced to a damascus peanut, a Schrade bird and trout fixed blade, a case fishing folder and a Davison custom damascus single blade trapper. I have three very special customs that occupy honored space behind glass where they are enjoyed daily from afar. Life is good as a minimalist and the world is better off with five up and coming knife lovers.
