Just wondering if all your locks stop in the same position on your sebbies. Mine lock up at 50% on the tang. I wonder if they all stop in the same spot.

All of my 4 sebbies lock up nearly at the same point...a little bit less than 50%. Seems like my small Sebbies lock a little deeper than the large.

I previously had two small Sebbies and they locked up at virtually the same spot. The same can also be said for my Mnandi's. ;)

All of mine lock up in the same spot, which appears to be about 50%. All of mine are large's too.

My small regular locks up at 50%, but my large Classic locks up at about 75%. I bought both new from a local dealer. Should I send the Classic in?

Keith, you could take it apart, clean it and put it back together.
I've noticed that my Seb goes further then 50% (like 70 or 90%) when I used it heavily, or dropped it.
After the disassembly it's always back to 50%.

Mine does exactly the same thing. If I drop it, it sometimes starts to lock up at about 70%. After reassembly, it's back to 50%. I find it strange that it does that though...

Probably due to compression of the stop pin sleeve. If necessary they can install a sleeve of a slightly larger diameter if the bar begins to bottom out on th opposite handle every time.

This is from the Sebenza FAQ -
"My problem is that the lock travels and hits the opposing liner when a firm grip is applied. I disassembled it and cleaned it thoroughly but the problem persists.

There is nothing to fix!! The lock will move over toward the back of the front handle slab if you press hard on it. After all, it is a spring that has a natural position and can move further if pushed. The spec position for the lock is to cover 75% of the blade. - Anne Reeve 11/03/98"

All my Sebenza's lock position are among 50% ~ 90%. I asked this question to others several time. I do mind this then.

After my finger hurt in knife shop by other liner bar folder due to poor lock design. I never concern about the lock bar position in Sebenza.

Thanks for all of the advice. Using Ted's instructions, I took it apart, cleaned it, lubed it and reassembled it -- for the first time. Ted, your illustrated instructions are excellent and simple. The process was a breeze, and helped me further appreciate the precision with which this knife was made. I had to use Miltec, though, as I have not yet ordered the CRK greese.

Anyway, it still locks up at about 75%. Unless someone tells me this is truly a defect, I'm not going to worry about it. Having had one frame lock fail on me, and cut me, I'm inclined to actually prefer the increased engagement.

Thanks again!

I own over a dozen sebs. I find that when you use them often the lock travels a bit only to return back to the original spot after you strip it and put it back together again.

no they do NOT. some farther to the right...

but I have like 10.

they are so damn cool, that it doesnt matter! :D

Not all (Mnandi, Small and Large Sebbies) at the same spot, but with 25 - 50%. I prefer about 33%. Had one once that was about 95% NIB, and CRK wanted the knife back to see why and how it got out of the shop. Great folks to deal with.
