Question for Benchmade 470 Emissary Owners

I got my 470 as a replacement for the Spyderco Chokwe I have been EDCing for the last year and a half. The sheeple at my new office were giving me a little grief on why I carried such a "big knife" (3.75" blade). Of course when someone needs to cut something open you can guess who they come to... Hopefully the assisted opening doesn't freak them out. Overall, I'm happy with my 2nd 470. There is a tiny amount of up/down blade play when locked open, but it's not noticeable when using the knife only when wiggling the blade. There is a little bit of grittiness right before the blade locks up, but I'm hoping that will go away with use. It's not quite as sharp out of the box as the first one, but I can take care of that with my Sharpmaker or perhaps borrow my friend's new EdgePro :) Just waiting to make sure that this knife doesn't have any issues before sharpening it. I really wanted a Bradley Alias II for a long time, but I couldn't pass up the deal I found on 470. I have a feeling that an Alias II will eventually find its way in my pocket anyway...

I just got a 470 the other day, mine came without one of the screws on the axis lock, so yes they do screw on and off. I contacted Benchmade and they are sending me all of the external hardware, something tells me I won't get the actual part I need. It's odd for Benchmade to send off a knife with such an obvious flaw, it's almost as if it was never tested before being shipped.

If you are having a problem with your Benchmade opening, I would recommend just sending it in, opening it yourself will require removal of the pivot screw, lock bar, axis lock screws, pocket clip, and two screws in the body. I think getting it open is the easy part, putting it back together while managing to get the assist spring and safety together will be quite the feat in such a small package. Send it to Benchmade, they will take care of it, opening the knife will also void your warranty.

By the way, my 470 opens lightning fast out of box, I'm afraid the axis bar might come out since its missing a screw though.

I am glad you got it replaced! Hopefully Benchmade sends me the right screw to fix mine.
